Most soy in the world is grown genetically modified and mass produced. Even organically grown soy uses GMO seeds. As a result it is not the powerhouse of nutrients it once was and it has been known to add estrogen into your body, which disrupts all hormones. I used to drink soy milk daily to reduce my night sweats, but once I stopped drinking it... my night sweats disappeared. Protein can also be found in other vegetables, just research it and find high quality vegetables.

I agree with that justontime, meal replacement shakes don't help you to keep weight off. A healthy diet is the best way to go.

I am not sure I completely go along with this article, sure soy has some benefits, but it doesn't work miracles. The best way to lose weight is to change your diet and re-educate yourself re eating habits. Meal replacement shakes are not a good way of losing weight long term.

Katharina, you have my admiration if you could learn to soy milk! After one taste I decided that there was no pleasure in being healthy if it involved that stuff!

Ah well now there's something I hadn't heard before! In what ways is genetically modified soy specifically harmful? Are any of the soy products untouched by that?

Good stuff... i don't know if i could give up bacon though!

As well as benefits there are some drawbacks though, for instance most soy is genetically modified..

Great article about the benefits of soy! For a while I was buying Soy Milk and even learning to enjoy it :-) but then I couldn't find my favorite kind any longer so I stopped buying it. Naughty me!

Wouldn't it be great if all the benefits of soy would come in a vitamin supplement to just take with lunch? Or does it? They have so many things in pill form now, maybe it *is* already a product?

Soy is an excellent non-animal source of protein, which makes it an ideal food for a weight loss program, as protein slows down digestion and keeps you from feeling hungry. For a list of other high protein foods, visit the food pyramid section of my website.
