Far too much pressure is put on pregnant women and especially if it is their first child they can become very anxious. Clearly it does not help to be overweight but it doesn’t help to be over anxious either.

I think that you see something like this with women who already have an issue with their weigh even before the become pregnant. Pregnancy would make it twice as hard.

The media doesn’t help, but if a woman is willing to risk the health of her baby to look thinner, she has bigger issues than vanity or insecurity. Either she is seriously lacking information or she is seriously in need of counselling.

I can see it is important to maintain a safe weight, but I think pregnancy is not the time for dieting.

The media and the celebrity cult have a lot to answer for. A pregnancy is supposed to be a happy time in a young womans life, not a source of misery and anxiety to look like Angelina Jolie while carrying a baby.

I can see how eating disorders might crop up when you are gaining weight due to pregnancy. Me, I was lucky in that I knew that I had to gain weight and was able to understand that it was a normal part of pregnancy.
