Yes, I think I would be more likely to use something like this for finding more friends who share common interests/actvities, etc. than for romance. I need to have seen someone in a concrete context (work, through friends, etc.)before I will consider meeting him for a date.
Yes, there are many reasons why people may feel lonely, and look for friends online.
Could be worth a try… gives you a chance to pick out the ones that seem to share similar interests so you at least have something in common to talk about.
