Former supermodel and singer Carla Bruni is now better known for her role as the First Lady of France and princess-consort of the Principality of Andorra. After a surprising whirlwind romance with French President Nicolas Sarkozy in the winter of 2007, the two tied the knot at Elysee Palace on January 8, 2008. This is his third marriage and her first.

The union, has without a doubt, rocked the solidarity of the french parliament. Sarkozky, known for being a Left bank Parisian cultural elite association and a champion of “the France that gets up early”, is as far removed from Bruni’s world of glamour. It’s been one controversy after another – an ex-wife who loves to talk to the media, Bruni’s nude photograph auctioned at Christie’s for almost $100,000, and punitive damages from Ryanair for using an unathorized photo of the couple for print advertising …. All in the last six months.

She is as much buzzed about on state visits and international summits as her husband, being the media’s favourite amongst the first ladies of the world’s top countries. Unlike Grace Kelly, though, she is continuing her music career with the support of her husband. Her album “Comme si de rien n’était” is to be released on July 21, 2008. She will, however, put appearing in concerts on hold until her husband is out of the office.
