Once upon my lifetime, I was a morning person.

I’d get up at five in the morning …. feeling energized and ready to tackle the world. My day would start with a bowl of granola for breakfast, and then off to wake up the siblings for school. I remember my sister would always throw a pillow at me, claiming that nobody in this godly hour can be as irritatingly chirpy as I was.

But then, at sixteen, I was in the prime of my health.

Today, at thirty-seven years of age, I’d consider myself lucky if woke up not feeling tired. So, maybe, I’m overworked *but who isn’t?* and it’s made me a restless sleeper …. or maybe it’s my strict workout schedule to keep my body in decent shape.

Whatever the real reason why, having a night of blissful sleep has been eluding me for such a long time. My days would start with a quick trip to the medicine cabinet to take a few of my favourite red pain reliever pills, and then breakfast.

purple beverage company drink

One day, a representative from the Purple Beverage Company told me she was sending me a case of their antioxidant drink. I drank it everyday before my fitness workout in the afternoon for two straight weeks.

It’s nothing short of a miracle…. Sleep at night comes so very quickly and I am up at the crack of dawn humming in the kitchen while I’m making breakfast. My husband thinks that I should stop drinking *the stuff* because he doesn’t like the disturbance in the mornings when he’s sleeping.

I still can’t get over how quickly it’s changed me from feeling exhausted to feeling …. well, sixteen again.

I had to start knowing the why’s because I believe that understanding the reasons for the change can only lead me to better health.

Let’s start with the fact that this drink combines seven of the world’s most powerful antioxidants: Acai, Black cherry, Pomegranate, Black Currant, Purple Plum, Cranberry and Blueberry. When combined, it produces a scientific principle dubbed as “the antioxidant cascade effect” and gives Purple it’s high ORAC value.

“ORAC, or Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, is the measurement used to count the amount of antioxidants a specific food can absorb. Foods and fruits that have a high ORAC value are the best for you. The more oxygen radicals a food can absorb, the higher the ORAC score. The higher the ORAC score, the better a food is at helping our bodies fight free radicals. Purple, with its seven antioxidant fruits blended has an ORAC value of 24,978 per liter – four times the ORAC value of orange juice.”

Very interesting stuff, but I think I’d like to know more about free radicals.

Free radicals play an important role in our body’s biological process. They are necessary for life, but at the same time, causes unwanted reactions resulting in cell damage like cancer, aging, schizophrenia, alzheimers ….. Antioxidants like polyphenol plays a key role in minimizing free radical induced damage and to repair damage when it does occur. Polyphenol gives the deep purple color to the fruits that make up the Purple Beverage. The company sure wasn’t kidding when they said it is the “most powerful antioxidant drink on the planet”!

And here’s another tidbit of information that has enriched my life ….

Wikipedia tells me that “during exercise, oxygen consumption can increase by a factor of more than 10. This leads to a large increase in the production of oxidants and results in damage that contributes to muscular fatigue during and after exercise.” Oxidation produces free radicals, which then starts the chain reaction that damage cells. “Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates”.

Ted Farnsworth, CEO of the Purple Beverage Company, really knows his stuff *as my husband calls it* and because of his drink, I now love my mornings ……

So, how antioxidant deprived is your body? Pick up a Purple drink from your local GNC Store or order it online. Then, you can tell me all the wonderful things it has done to your body, and we both can shout it from the nearest rooftop.
