Young Athlete Aims to Break World Record: Running a Marathon on Seven Continents for Seven Charities

In addition to setting the record, Erin co-founded a non-profit company called In the Running, which pairs a grassroots charitable organization on each continent with each marathon. “In the Running connects an extreme personal challenge with an innovative platform for international grassroots awareness,” says runner and CEO Erin.
In the Running supports seven existing organizations that combat urgent global challenges: obesity, human trafficking, HIV/AIDS, poverty, peace, global warming, and education. “The sponsored organizations are on the ground solving real problems, but need vehicles like In the Running to combat donor fatigue and expand outreach,” says co-founder Dana Worth.
Erin graduated from Harvard University and currently has a full time job at a New York-based financial firm, in addition to her training and In the Running. In the Running’s volunteer staff personally funds all travel and operating costs so that 100 percent of external donations go to charity.
Erin will run the following marathons and In the Running will donate to the following organizations:
Nov. 2005 North America – ING New York, City Marathon USA
Sponsored Charity: Girls on the Run
Cause: Youth Fitness
Oct. 2006 Asia – ANA Beijing Marathon, China
Sponsored Charity: The Polaris Project

Amazing. So inspirational. I’ll be traveling across 6 continents in August. Antarctica is a place I’d love to visit, but will have to wait for another time.
That is amazing and I agree inspirational as well. At the same time he get to see the wonderful places during his marathon.
I think this is an awesome young woman! That is a great idea to earn money for other organizations. This is amazing.
Hey Sharon, this is pretty interesting stuff. You know I’m into running and all that and this is very inspirational.
I’ve never run a full marathon before but I aim to do so one day
Happy Easter to you and your hubby, Sharon.
Jessica, I am so envious! I would love to just have the time to travel around the world!
Maybe you need someone to carry your luggage?
Chase, I know! Makes you kind of want to train for a marathon so that you can go to all the continents!
Except of course, I’ll never get into that great of a shape. I see that you have been working *so* hard! Your gym looks like a spa….
Hi Nick.
I think you are pretty *inspirational* yourself! When you do eventually run that marathon, let me know because I would love to do an article about it.
I’ve done smaller marathons that are pre-qualifiers, but its really not my cup of tea.
Wow, this sounds amazing! If someone is going to run marathons, this is *definitely* the way to do it! I hope that Erin stays long enough on each continent to enjoy the surroundings in all those great places.
Morgan Cain, she is definitely a winner all around.
Not only does she get to raise funds for much needed charities, she gets to do what she likes to do the most – fitness and travelling.
Katharina, it would certainly be such a shame if she didn’t get a chance to see a little bit of each continent that she visits.
that is one commendable effort…I really am thinknig about the passion and strength the young guy must have to achieve such a feat.
I actually feel here feat is more important because she is doing it all for charity and for so many diffferent things….
