Highlighting Carlos Santana and his “Carlos by Carlos Santana” line of fashion-forward women’s shoes, which is sold at Macy’s, the 30 second spot also features vocal superstar Mariah Carey. As Carey admires a brightly colored and highly-elevated example of “Carlos” footwear, Santana improvises a trademark guitar lick around the concept of “stiletto.” He then delivers another riff saluting the soulful qualities of Carey’s signature fragrance, another Macy’s item. While Santana and Carey serenade the store, onlookers include Martha Stewart and Donald Trump, whose housewares and neckties, respectively, are also featured by the retailer.
“Carlos and Mariah” and other spots in Macy’s Spring brand campaign — including “The New Guy” introducing Calvin Klein model Gabriel Aubry — were directed by Academy Award winning director Barry Levinson (Rain Man, The Natural, Wag The Dog, Diner, Bugsy, etc.). Filming was done in New York City in February, 2008.
Carlos Santana kicked off 2008 with the launch of Santana’s “Live Your Light 2008 World Tour including a date in Dubai that was the group’s debut Persian Gulf performance. The first of the tour’s two North American legs commences on April 4 with a show at Agganis Arena in Boston, MA. Before heading to Europe in June and July, Santana will play over twenty dates in the Eastern U.S. and Canada, including a highly anticipated show at Madison Square Garden in NYC on April 8. A Western North American leg is slated to follow in late Summer and Fall.
On the recording front, Santana’s next release is the new 2-CD compilation Multi-Dimensional Warrior (Columbia-Legacy), with a street date of August 5. The collection, which Carlos Santana has called a “love letter to his fans,” features twenty-eight career-spanning recordings personally selected by Carlos. The double-disc anthology emphasizes album cuts he regards as some of his best, most artistically resonant work from the past four decades, spotlighting compositions that deepen an understanding of
Santana’s creative evolution.
Currently, the Santana single “Into The Night,” featuring Chad Kroeger, is #14 on Billboard’s Hot Adult Top 40 chart. The track is from Santana’s most recent album, Ultimate Santana, the only single-disc retrospective spanning the group’s recent landmark albums for Arista and signature hits from their seminal Columbia years. In addition to “Into The Night,” the compilation’s previously unissued material includes a version of “The Game Of Love” with Tina Turner on lead vocals. Other highlights include the #1 GRAMMY-winning smash “Smooth,” featuring Rob Thomas, as well as the classic hits “Oye Como Va,” “Black Magic Woman” and “Evil Ways.”

Carlos Santana and His ‘Carlos by Carlos Santana’ Women’s Shoes Take Lead Roles in ‘Stars’ of Macy’s Spring Brand Campaign Hitting Network TV This Week…
Music legend Carlos Santana is featured in “Carlos and Mariah,” the premiere television spot in Macy’s Spring brand campaign, which builds on the retailer’s popular “Stars” of Macy’s concept promoting their line-up of celebrity fashion an…
So are the stars actually designing the shoes or just putting their name on them? They are interesting shoes. A tad to loud for me though personally.
Some cute designs, but unfortunately I don’t have the wardrobe to match the shoes… ha ha!
Those are some funky platforms! But like Sara mentioned - what to wear with it? It’s not in my closet
OOOOOOHH… I luv those shoes!
Wow…they are really funky…definately fit in with Carlos…but why would he want to design shoes?? hmmmmmm
That is true. Finding something to wear that would look good with these would be hard for me also.
I think Santana is finally cutting loose. I bet he has always wanted to design women’s shoes but couldn’t work up the nerve!
LOL
Ah, shoes! One of my favorite subjects! I would never have thought Carlos Santana would have come up with a shoe line, and then a women’s shoe line, at that! But, hey, they look pretty cool. They look just perfect for a night on the town, dancing to Carlos Santana music!
They would for sure fit in with his music!!!
Tater03, most of the time, they just slap their names on their label…. just like what they do with celebrity perfumes.
But then, you’ll get celebrities who really do get involved with the designs like Natalie Portman on her eco shoe collection.
I personally love this collection. I know it’s a bit loud but it’s spring and there’s just so many splashes of colour going around. I think this spring we have many reasons to celebrate the fine weather…. it’s been such a hard winter, don’t you think?
Sara, these shoes actually are quite versatile and great for matching with one tone outfits.
A very cute black or white dress with these *loud* platforms should do the trick.
Sexy Shoes, I’m actually quite surprised that not a lot of people like the collection, because I absolutely just adore it.
Just by looking at the shoes, I know it will go with so well with my wardrobe!
Diamond, finally!
Some who’s *drooling* over the collection…..
Taylor Blue, LOL! I was thinking the same thing also!
I mean, just by looking at him, I wouldn’t want to be wearing anything he designs.
But this collection is super funky at really good designer prices.
Tater03, the secret to it is to pair it with something simple and use the shoes to give accent and pizzazz.
SageMother, LOL! You could be right about that.
I mean, who wouldn’t want to design sexy women’s shoes?
Trick-r-treat, these definitely will look great with a sexy black dress!
Taylor Blue, I still don’t get the connection though …. music and sexy stilettos….
It was as much as a surprise to me that he had his own collection of womens shoes.
I think they are so sexy and the prices are really good!
Hi,
Wow, Macy’s brought out all the
star power for this one. Mariah,
Carlos, Martha, Donald! I have to
say the shoes collection is da
bomb and should do very well!
Thanks
Terry
Great advertising strategy on Macy’s part. It is easier to create sales based celebrities from other fields than it is to promote a relative unknown in the design field!
Terry, I’ve never seen Mariah’s commercial, but I’ve seen one with Martha Stewart & Usher.
SageMother, being in the design industry is really quite cut throat. Not only do you have to know the right people in order to get picked up by the right stores, you also need to have a lot of money backing your designs and productions.
In the case of Macy’s, it is a very good financial move for them to carry designer celebrity brands.
santana is one of the best on everything !!!!
