So what say you as Ms. Tara being America’s next top mogul? Is she really following the footsteps of these mega divas?
Forbes.com Celebrity 100 released in June of 2007 lists the top celebrities with the most star power based on press love, best paid and most googled.
Oprah Winfrey tops the list as usual, earning $260 million dollars between 2006 and 2007. Considered to be the most influential woman in the world, her empire is estimated at a net worth of $2.5 billion dollars and includes a blockbuster daytime talk show, reality tv shows, satellite radio show, magazine, broadway musical and hit talk shows by Dr. Phil McGraw and Rachael Ray. Everything Oprah makes headlines - her weight, her endorsements, her philanthropic endeavors… and just more recently, her own television network. With the distribution of The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) to over 70 million households in 2009, *oprah all the time* will definitely be the buzz.
Tyra Banks made Forbes.com Celebrity 100 list at #61, squeezed right in between Jessica Simpson at #60 and Anthony Robbins at #62. She earned $18 million dollars between 2006 and 2007 as the creator / judge of the popular reality tv show America’s Next Top Model and as host of the Emmy nominated The Tyra Banks Show. Time Magazine ranks her as one of the world’s most influential people and is considered a power player in the entertainment industry. She may have fooled everyone with her pretty face and her *angelic* body during her career as a supermodel, but there is no doubt Tyra Banks is a heavy weight and is a brand that will be around in decades to come.
Though Oprah started out as a tabloid talk show host in the 1990s before re-inventing her show to focus more on self improvement and spirituality, I just can’t seem to get my head wrapped around the idea of seeing her strip in front of the cameras like Tyra does on a regular basis.

Martha Stewart OmniMedia

Thanks for dropping by!
I just don’t see her in the same capacity as Oprah. That is not to say that she is not doing alright for herself.
I agree with tater. I don’t see her as being on Oprah’s level, or even Martha Stewart’s level at all. I really don’t think she will make it up to that level either, though she is making a very good name for herself.
I think she has done well for herself. Although, I do agree she has a ways to go to be on level with Oprah and Martha Stewart.
Hmmm… “mogul in the making” huh?
Well I suppose she could have a lot of plans in the pipeline that could get her up there to Martha Stewart’s level, but catching up to Oprah would not be an easy thing to do!
She is in a lot of things lately. She doesn’t have a bad personality, really, but for some reason, I don’t think there is anything really that special about her, either.
I think that she is mainly pretty big in the younger generation. It seems to me that she is targeting that certain age group.
I would prefer Tyra to Oprah if given the choice of who would eventually wield a great deal of influence. I thnk she is more realistic, which makes her a healthier influence than Oprah.
I agree with SageMother. I would watch Tyra over Oprah any day. Maybe it is because I am in my early 30’s and I can relate..I really can’t pinpoint it.. but there is just something about Oprah…
Tyra Banks The Next Top Mogul?…
I came across an article on Entertainment Weekly with a Tyra Banks pictorial that I really liked. The *diva* is wearing an absolutely stunning blue dress captured in a pose most top models will envy. Underneath the picture you see the caption ”Oprah …
When it comes to who I would watch first, I would definitely choose Tyra. Her show just seems more interesting to me. I don’t necessarily like Tyra, but her show just covers more topics that are age appropriate for me.
I don’t even watch Oprah anymore. I don’t know why, but I am just not so big into the talk shows. It seems like it has all been said and done already. I prefer the “judge” shows that run around the same time. Although, I still like to watch “Ellen” every now and then. But they put her on at the same time as “Judge Mathis”, so I watch him instead.
I’m not sure Tyra is in the same league as Oprah, either. I think they’ve both found their niche. I don’t watch Oprah these days, unless Nate Berkus is going to be on. She’s changed over the years and seems to be a tad out of touch with reality (though she feigns to the contrary). I’ll probably tune in for the new Oprah/Nate show. I love when she gives it away to the needy!
Tater03, Oprah has a twenty year startup on her so Tyra Banks might still catch up you never know.
She has a new set of reality series coming out this year or next year, and that will be a good sign of things to come if it is successful.
Oprah just never seems to do anything wrong.
Jewel, I agree with you too.
I think her shows are entertaining, but she still hasn’t developed that *make or break* stance like Oprah has.
I still think she has a long way to go. However, at one time, she was rumoured to be groomed as Oprah’s successor. Tyra used to be a teen correspondent for her.
EviesEarth, I think it’s because Oprah’s been around longer and she keeps on restructuring with the times.
I, undoubtedly, know that Tyra will do the same thing. But just not today or tomorrow.
I had no idea that Tyra used to be a teen correspondent for Oprah. That’s pretty impressive though. I just don’t really take anything to heart that Tyra says, I think she’s just not as reliable as Oprah.
Katharina, you know how it is nowadays. The word *mogul* is so loosely used that sometimes, I think, the dictionary should change its meaning.
She has the next twenty years to catch up. Let’s see where she goes. She is definitely not in their league right now in popularity or even payscale. But you never know.
Trick-r-treat, I think Tyra’s quite entertaining.
She talks about subjects that I’m really interested in. Even though I love Oprah to death, sometimes I find her shows boring.
Tyra’s bound to have some sort of *jerry springer* entertainment happening in the background that amuses the heck out of me.
Tater03, Tyra’s audience is targeted mainly towards teens and women in their 20s. So, she deals with a lot of issues regarding self respect and acceptance in those age groups.
SageMother, you have a point there.
Tyra talks about subjects that’s not too grown up and not too young at the same time. I love Oprah, don’t get me wrong, but she approaches the same subjects a little bit differently.
But I’ve watched both shows and felt like crying afterwards because the episodes were so sad.
Diamond, I’m also in my 30’s and I can relate more to Tyra.
So, maybe someday she will be a mogul like Oprah. But they really have two different followings.
Jewel, you are right about that one.
Age specific topics interest me more. I was just thinking about that. I don’t think there are any other talk show hosts out there that has the same age demographic as Tyra.
Does anybody else come into mind?
Trick-r-treat, I am such a big fan of Ellen.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a *dull* show and it just makes you want to get up and dance….
Samantha, I saw the trailer for that show where people give money and donate.
I think that is such an awesome concept and I can’t wait to see what other new things come out from her network.
But, I would rather watch Ellen instead of Oprah or Tyra. I should do a post about her sometime.
Jewel, I just actually caught a Tyra show recently and she`s still at the stage of being *me*, *me* and more *me*.
Which is really why people watch her show.
