But how are you expected to concentrate on your workout when two out of four station televisions are tuned to cooking shows? First Rachael Ray and then Giada De Laurentiis.
Do you know what I mean? Instead of getting all psyched up to sweat all the bad stuff out of your system, it does the opposite! I’m on the treadmill planning on stopping off at the nearest grocery store so I can cook up a feast when I get home. Throughout the hour and a half workout at the gym, my mind was stuck in gutter thinking about food. I tried to concentrate on the other television shows but I just couldn’t help but notice at the corner of my eyes that Giana is melting chocolate……
By this time, there is no ignoring her. She is making this absolutely divine dessert bar with orange marmalade, nuts, and beautiful chocolate drippings.
So what do you think? Is this conducive to your overall resolution to get in shape? I have heard of gym regulating music. They play dance music with fast tempo and beat to get that mojo going when working out. It just doesn’t make sense to working out listening to “oh, she broke my heart and now I have a drinking problem….”
????
Wouldn’t it be nice to be working out with videos of David Kirsch or Bob Greene on the television motivating you and showing you how to work out properly? How come this concept has not caught on with the fitness clubs, I will never understand. After all, we sink so much money on our gym memberships!
The least they could do is keep us on track.

The best way to get away from those cooking shows turn your TV off. Better yet, watch a DVD or a movie. Otherwise, if you’re really interested in cooking, find a recipe that you like and change it to something else that you like.
For example:
You could change the dry sherry to anything you like. If you don’t have access to “tuna steaks” you could always make tuna patties. If you prefer using your stove, you could always try them or bake them or even grow them outside. You could change the gingerroot or honey. It’s called experimentation. Try you might like!
1/3 c Dry Sherry
1 cl Garlic Minced
1 tb Minced Gingerroot
1 lb Tuna Steaks Cut Into 4 Pieces
1 tb Low Sodium Soy Sauce
1 ts Honey
Combine Sherry, Gingerroot, Soy Sauce, Honey & Garlic in A 1 Cup Glass Measure. Microwave Uncovered on High 1 Min or Until Mixture Boils. Cool Slightly. Place Tuna in a 11″ X 7″ X 1 1/2″ Baking Dish. Pour Marinade Overtuna.
Cover & Chill 2 Hours. Remove Tuna From Marinade, Reserving Marinade.
Preheat A 10″ microwavable Browning Skillet on High For 8 Min. Arrange Tuna On Hot microwavable Browning Skillet With Thickest Portions To The outside. Microwave Uncovered on High For 2 Min. Turn Steaks Over & Baste With Marinade. On At High For 1 1/2 To 2 Min.
Let Stand Covered 2 Min. Serve Immediately With Warm Marinade. (May Also Grill Outdoors.)
If it is bothering you, I would see whether you could switch channels those shows never affected me. The mind is powerful you can train it not to react to those things. It might take a little mind exercise, but it can be done.
I think I was about eleven when I realized how powerful our mind can be. Of course I thought I could do anything if I trained it correctly. at times I still think that.

it must make it difficult to concentrate on working out if all you can see is food! maybe you need to take a small tv and headphones with you and watch your own (not very practical though!)

If you turn your TV off yet? Because I am absolutely positive this will help keep you away from the cooking shows.
Roguegal, oh, I just wish I worked out at home, but I work out at the gym. And all the ladies there love to watch the cooking shows when they are working out!
I don’t get that either, I would be sooo hungry if I had to watch those and work out at the sametime.
How about listening to your own songs with upbeat tempo on your ipod?
Don’t watch the tv, listen to your music and visualise anything but food!
better yet, your dream body shape

Opal, it does bother me, but not enough to deal with the *other woman* at the gym who are devoted watchers while they are on the treadmill.
It just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me
Andy, I was thinking of just loading videos on my ipod. But the screen is so small that it gives me a headache just even looking at it for longer periods.
Diamond, I also have a big appetite after the workout, and it really has nothing to do with the workout either!
Melbie, it is such a great idea.
Since the volume on the tv is turned off anyway and you can tune into it through your workout machine.
I usually just pick the treadmill that is the furthest away from the tv!
I live off my iPod while exercising especially when the TV is on and I don’t want to watch it. I thinkw atching some of those cooking shows while exercising is another form of torture that I would like to skip. Go for your on tunes and let the rest of them enjoy the tortment of watching cooking shows while exercising.
Mauvekat, it’s definitely tortore!
Who wants to workout on a grumbling stomach? I couldn’t really understand it.
I am not that affected by cookery shows..and yes I listen to music while excercising so that’s a big distracter from thinknig food.
I hate cookery shows, they are boring and they never cook anything I would like to eat anyway.
