Sweet yet sexy best describes Natalie Portman’s Collection of vegan-friendly footwear. Designed for the New York luxury label Té Casan, “each shoe exudes the starlet’s own personal style” and is free of any animal products - leather, fur, or feathers. All of Portman’s proceeds will be donated to the Nature Conservancy, a non profit that works tirelessly to protect ecologically fragile lands and bodies of water.

Ethical minded fashionistas and trendsetter divas have been waiting since December to get a glimpse of the collection and, on January 15th, the store’s website revealed six styles available for advance purchase before February’s official launch. Only 100 pairs per style will be released under *limited edition*, with a limited edition number imprinted on the sole of each shoe.

Since eco-fashion is the “number one cause at the moment”, fashion industry experts predict that Natalie Portman is pioneering the new wave of glamorous ethical champions and is setting the precedent for the future of high street fashion.

Richard Hyman, who runs Verdict Consulting, a retail consultancy, said shops ploughing the well-trodden celebrity endorsement route would not be enough of a draw for saturated shoppers. “This year shops will have to find the right endorsement that is sympathetic to their marketplace,” he said, adding that tapping into the consumers’ blossoming ethical consciousness with targeted tie-ups was one option retailers would choose. “Retailing today needs to be about offering a genuine point of difference,” he added. - quoted from The Independent.

And as for Té Casan, the company has truly lived up to the expectation of being a luxury brand by employing seven of the best emerging designers recruited from respected fashion houses such as Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Versace and Dries Van Noten. It has redefined luxury with their collection of hand-crafted designs and limited edition collections at attainable prices.
