So, for those of you who are not familiar with carbon footprint, Wikipedia defines it as “measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of green house gases produced”. Experts argue that “carbon emissions are a significant cause of global warming”, “human activity is a significant cause of these emissions” and “it is possible to attribute all or most emissions to particular individuals”.
And David Beckham is it….. He has been awarded the title of “Largest Carbon Footprint in Human History” by the british environmentalist group Carbon Trust. E! Online has reported that he is responsible for over “18 times more tons of carbon dioxide than the average person”. So based on this, if the average UK carbon footprint is 9.4 tons per person (Wikipedia), then this translates to about 169 tons or approximately 338,000 pounds!
Carbonfootprint.com recommends that in order to offset that many tons of CO2, the Beckhams would need to start repairing the damage by donating: $2519.79 US to the Clean Energy Fund, $3228.51 US to plant 232 trees reforestration trees in Kenya, or $5419.29 US to plant 232 trees trees in the UK.
Personally, I really wouldn’t mind indulging in my fantasy of Becks *shirtless* planting a tree, with beads of perspiration running down his beautiful body in the hot humid sun ….. and Posh, well, she’ll probably come out for the photo op wearing her high heels and a tutu.

Being named the “Largest Carbon Footprint in Human History” isn’t really a title I’d be proud to have put on me. Fifteen cars? Come on, people!
How many cars can you drive at a time?!
Katharina, LOL! And this even knowing that their kids are not driving yet.
Can you imagine the amount of cars they’ll have then once the whole brood can get around on their own?
Can we say they probably will put Paris Hilton to shame…..
I think these guys are all about status and so fake. This really doesn’t surprise me in the least and certainly would not be proud of this title.
It’s pretty sad when this is a headline! Its not as if people are starving anywhere or women are still fighting for control of the bodies everywhere…LOL
I want to know what charities these two support!
Tater03, it’s all about status and the bigger the bling, the better it is for these celebrity folks.
But, we all have to do our part in saving our world. Unfortunately, these two are not in the same mind as most of us normal folks.

It does seem that lately they have made many headlines, most not positive. And yes, with the way so many people are becoming aware of the environment and trying to be green, reading about people such as them is not too good. It will really hurt their image.
Tater03, I’m sure they support charities. After all, next to rehab and adopting babies, that’s probably the next biggest *hollywood* thing.
Trick-r-treat, Posh and Becks are Europe’s equivalent to Tom and Katie in North America.
Ever since those two hooked up, there’s been so much controversy and the media just loves talking about them.
They moved to the US, and they’re seriously giving Tom and Katie a run for their celebrity couple status.
I find Angelina and Brad more interesting. IT might be because they have made choices that I find interesting, and seem to be extremely independent in making them.
Tom is so linked to Scientology that I can’t see him as an independent thinker. The Posh and Beck “franchise” seems shallow, even though they are probably sincere in building a life together. Very ho-hum,
EviesEarth, I think they live to break the rules. I’m sure that they’re not the only one who has to adopt the *greener* ways.
I think for most, though, people are just gossiping about the excess they have more than anything.
SageMother, I love Angelina because she started working as a humanitarian before she became the diva today.
I really believe that no matter how *brash* or *crazy* the media portrays her lifestyle, she is a giver.
