I’ve been reading up on missed press releases and while I was quickly skimming through a headline caught my attention - NUDE RECREATION WEEK GIVES FIRST-TIMERS A CHANCE TO TRY CLOTHES-FREE RECREATION. Just like any normal human being who is curious about what the rest of the world does when they think no one is looking, I fished out the article to get more of the juicy information.
Did you know that a national study conducted by National Leisure Travel Monitor found that 15 percent of Americans are looking for a nude recreation experience? And that memberships to nudist clubs such as The American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) and The Naturist Society (TNS) are gaining mainstream acceptance?
“AANR’s mission is to advocate for nudity in appropriate settings as well as educate, and inform the public about its value through ongoing membership growth. It is the oldest and largest organization of its kind, representing nearly 50,000 members and their families, who enjoy clothes-free recreation throughout North America. Nude recreation has experienced tremendous growth and popularity over the last several years and has become a $400 million niche segment within the travel industry.”
I am not sure what bothers me the most, the fact that I would be surrounded by people donning their birthday suits who have not bothered to first read the book *looking great naked* or, the fact that their clothing optional recreation activities are family oriented. And now that I really start to think more about this, the list of what I would find objectionable is just getting longer and longer. I’m beginning to get a Sex And The City de-ja-vu where Charlotte tells Harry it is not alright to walk around naked in the house and sit on her white leather couch without shorts on.
But hey, if you belong in that 15% that are looking to give it a try but don’t know where to start, AANR and TNS recommends these “fab five” activities:
Cool off: skinny dip in your backyard pool
Make housekeeping fun: shed those clothes, turn on some music and get out the mop
Get in touch with nature: garden nude
Exercise in the buff: hit the treadmill or dust off one of those workout videos
Telecommuting in the nude: working from home– in the nude–is actually increasing in popularity

Just my .02 — I think nudity is best kept to the privacy of your own home. I’m not inhibited, but I think if you have to make a public spectacle of yourself, it borders on exhibitionism.
Can’t wait for Jon and Sharon to “weigh in” on this one. LOL
Nude Recreation May Not Be For Everyone, But You Just Might Like It…

when I was a kid, me and a bunch of other truanters spent an entire morning getting to a topless beach in Cornwall UK, when we got there we were so excited! … turned out there were only grannies there! I wouldn’t go to a nudist place, not coz I can’t be naked, it’s because once you see something, you can’t un-see it ever!
Samantha, I’m with you on that one. I think it’s best to keep certain things private, and I’d probably give my elderly lady neighbor a *heart attack* if I started blogging in the nude because I usually leave my blinds open during the day
Andy, I’m sure it was worth your time skipping classes to check out the *ahem* topless babes.
In Vancouver we have a nudist beach called WRECK BEACH and since it is a hike down a cliff to get there, you get better views.
We wear very little clothing at home but that is definitely different than public or semi-public nudity. I don’t mind if others indulge, but being that vulnerable doesn’t fit well with my self image.
Wow, what a thread. Nude sunbathing has been around for ever. I am not into it ,but the kids love to go skinny-dippen.
We are the same at home too SageMother. However, my husband is really having a good chuckle about running on the treadmill naked. I just know he’s got some sexy fantasy running around that brain of his…..
The nudity thing is definitely not for me. And with an almost teen son with hormones running rampant I am not sure I would be comfortable with him being around it either…
Well it isn’t for me either. I am just not comfortable walking around in the nude in front of strangers. Now at home in front of my hubby is about the only place you will catch me walking areound in the nude. To each their own just not for me.
I don’t necessarily like to be completely nude, but I do hang out a lot in my undergarments. I work from home and clean the house in them. It’s just really comfortable.
Echos, hey there was a time that I lived and loved to go skinny dipping. But I’m not sure I would like to pay money for the priviledge to dip with other people I dont know.
Sandmike123, I think our thoughts about being “one with nature” changes in time. And I just find it so unbelievable that these nudist camps are marketed as “family oriented”.
Tater03, I think what we do behind closed doors in our home is our business, but when you take *it* outside…. well, all hell would break lose.
Did I mention that we had a naked bikers parade just recently in Vancouver? It was done to celebrate being naked, or something like that.
I thought everyone blogged nude and walked around nude. All the time, everywhere. Now I know why people stare.
I don’t mind nudity at all, and if somebody wants to be “one with nature”, kudos to them. I’m not one to be nude in public, but I’m not offended by it.
I work nude, at home, which is one of the reasons I like to work at home, no wardrobe issues. I would feel too vulnerable around others though.
Nah! Totally nude is not my cup of coffee. But when you cover your real estate with a sheer piece of cloth - now you’re talking, babe!
Jewel, I’m not sure yet where I stand with public nudity. I guess there is a time and purpose that it would be acceptable. But, you know, people always push the boundaries.
SageMother, now you are talking. Maybe I need to do the same thing
Let me tell y’all I dated a guy that liked to be nude all the time 24-7 if he could it got kind of old after awhile. I don’t think I could ever walk around nude, but that is me. To each his/her own.
ArahMan7, ah, I think you are thinking out loud again
Gotta make sure I dedicate a new post just on sheer pieces of clothing…..
Jon,
Much that I would like to add more to your comment since it’s bringing some mental images to mind
I must remember that I am a family friendly site …..
he-he-he
3plus3, hmmm, now that’s a thought, a guy who likes to walk naked around the house all the time. I wonder if any one of his *women* have videotaped it yet and posted it on youtube…
Just a thought,,,,
I just don’t see how there can be sexy young women on the beach. lloll I mean I’m nude on a beach and like 3 other nude women in the water im like “o noes control yourself Z” lol I can’t see it happening unless you know…
Zmoney, ah, I guess you’ve never been to Vancouver….
We are the fittest capital of Canada and exhibitionists to boot. It’s a big hike to go down to the beach - more like a 1 hour going down and going up. It’s not for the weak at heart to make that journey.
Gotta come and visit sometime …..
I would have to agree that I don’t get the family oriented part of it. But I guess if you grew up doing this the kids probably wouldn’t think twice. Now my two sons would do nothing but laugh and point. I could see it already.
I don’t know if anyone ever videotaped him or not. I haven’t seen him in quite a few years, but my understanding is that he still does it.
3Plus3, well, at least his in touch with the wholesome world.
