Lucky for her, a woman had found him alive and well, running along the streets in Pleasantville. The Lower Hudson Online reported today that the woman brought Enzo in to a vet hospital in Stamford, Connecticut and that was when the local vet found an embedded chip that identified his famous owner!
It is nice that owner and dog were reconciled, and that she didn’t have to hire a pet detective and PR firm to find him (former tabloid publisher Gus Chandler and missing Gus, a blond dachshund). But I can’t help wonder how many dog owners out there really get their pooches skin embedded with a digital chip?
So, after snooping around the world wide web, I found a popular service called Home Again. It’s absolutely fantastic, just look at all the support you get when your pet wonders off:
Immediate engagement of a vast network of professionals actively looking for your pet if he or she should become lost.
Email alerts (including your pet’s picture) instantly sent to shelters, vet clinics, and other members of the HomeAgain network within a 25-mile radius of where your pet was lost or within 25-miles of your home.
Trained counselors to guide and assist you until your pet is recovered.
Medical information upon recovery of your pet to facilitate immediate medical care if needed.
A “lost pet poster” with your pet’s picture, your contact information, and the location where your pet was lost so you can immediately begin the search for your pet.
Wow, it does look like I’m going to have to be some famous celebrity before I’ll be able to afford it

Being a lifelong pet owner who has lost beloved animals and never have them returned, I can’t tell you how valuable a service like this is. It shouldn’t be just for the rich and famous. It can be done along with routine neutering and spaying and save a lot of heartache for pet parents!
I would have to agree if I had money to burn this would be a nice thing to have. My pets are a part of my family and I would love this but it is just to exspensive for me.
Home Again’s website does not say how much the actual vet procedure cost because apparently it varies from clinic to clinic. But to be listed on their database and maintainance is only about $18.
Embedding your pet with these chips are really popular in Asia, and I’m sure it’s catching on really quickly here in North America.
I know if I had a dog (and will be getting one in the future), I would want to have this tracking device procedure done.
Great information for people whose pets are like family. My dog is constantly getting loose, and it can be very stressful for everyone.
